Aging is optional. (Interview with Dr. Christiane Northrup!)

Did you know that you can actually become biologically younger this year than you were last year?

Getting older is inevitable, but aging is optional, says Dr. Christiane Northrup in her newest book – Goddesses Never Age: The Secret Prescription for Radiance, Vitality, and Well-Being.

I am so, so, so rose-petal-tossing thrilled to share this book and this woman with you today! Whether you’re 18 or 80 years old, or anywhere in between, this is such an important conversation for us as women right now.

Christiane Northrup, M.D. is a board-certified ob/gyn, and New York Times best-selling author, visionary pioneer and the world’s foremost authority on everything that can go right with the female body! (She’s also a dear friend, and a graduate of the School of Womanly Arts Mastery Program!)

In celebration of her book launch, I invited Dr. Northrup for an interview, so she can share a slice of her wisdom with this community. Listen to our interview below!

Download the interview here. (right-click and ‘Save Link As’)

After you listen, we’d love to hear from you in the comments section. What are your beliefs about aging, and what’s your favorite takeaway from the interview? (And of course, pick up your copy of Goddesses Never Age here!)

Your jab at Madonna was uncalled for and worse than that undermines your message. She has stated that she flashed her ass at the Grammys to show people what a 56 year old ass looks like. There’s an underlying criticism in you saying she’s trying to act 24, and I think that speaks to exactly the ageism you claim to be fighting. Who are you to imply her behavior is inappropriate for a 56 year old?
I’ve enjoyed your blog even though I often disagree with things you’ve said. You usually make me think, but this really annoyed me. How can you possibly do an interview on the “ageless goddess” and take a jab at Madonna for not acting her age? This hypocrisy has lead me to seriously reconsider whether or not I want to continue reading your blog.

    • Marie March 18, 2015, 4:13 pm

Sometimes acting as if we were 24 can be a subtle indication that we are not claiming the innate liveliness and vitality of the age we actually are. It can be a way of viewing ourselves as not good enough because we are not 24. Perhaps this is what Mama Gena is referring to.

I brag listening to this with my man just now.
He was trying to explain to me what is attractive or a turn-off about some women.
I knew hearing you both talk about joy and pleasure and what our beliefs do to us would illuminate things for him. Great conversation MG and thank you SG Dr. Christiane! xoS

  • Jane Wyker February 25, 2015, 4:08 pm

Oh how I loved this interview!!!!!!!! Can’t waitto read Christianne’s book!!!!!!

I celebrated my 79th birthday this month, and have been following Christianne Northrup’s work since the mid nineties. She is a visionary extraordinaire!!!!! And to think she is one of us, a Siste Goddess!! Thank you Regena for expanding our worlds in so many dimensions!!!!!!!

I was especially touched by Christianne telling us that the most important sexual relationship we have is with ourselves. I have held our Pussy Ritual as a regular spiritual practice since Mastery in 2007, and attribute that to what makes me feel beautiful, sexy, young and alive!

Thank you Regena for bringing Christianne into our world, and for showing me the many ways to love being the woman I am, focused on my pleasures!

Hi Jane, I turned 80 in Dec, and my name is Jane. I’ve been following Regina for years, still am, always thought I would get to a class, still dreaming I might. So happy for you that you had the desire in your 70’s to go for it. Would love to hear your story. I’m a Florida girl for the past 30 years coming from Ohio. Hope to hear back from you.

  • SG Dancing Tiger February 25, 2015, 9:27 am

  • LaSirene February 25, 2015, 7:12 am

This is wonderful! Exactly what I needed to hear, and spot on! I have never felt my chronological age, and will be happy to continue this trend.

  • SG Anne la Tigresse February 25, 2015, 4:38 am

I was speaking with someone I hadn’t seen in a while and she remarked that when I was telling her about the School of Womanly Arts I looked ten years younger — such are the effects of this work you do, Regena! May we all pleasure on and be alpha goddesses — ageless and gorgeous. Thank you, Regena; thank you, Christane!

  • Wildcherry Jeanette February 24, 2015, 10:28 pm

What amazing bits of information. Thank you so much. can’t wait to read it.

  • Belinda Wurn February 24, 2015, 4:18 pm

Chris is a friend and longtime supporter of ours with the hands-on physical therapy that we do. She let us know about her new book last week, and we are excitedly awaiting the 2 copies that we ordered!

Chris quoted our studies on different women’s issues , from treating infertility, female sexual dysfunction, painful intercourse, endometriosis, etc., 6 or 7 times in the newer version of “Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom.”

She is an extraordinary woman, and an amazing human being! She glows when you see her, and she is extremely charismatic and funny! I feel honored to be able to call her a friend!

    • AnnaBeth Karson February 25, 2015, 12:10 am

Who is the “we” you refer to? I’d be interested in the studies you’ve done as well. Thanks!

Fantastic interview! I listened to it today after Regena’s Creation call. I am so inspired to hear Dr. Northrup’s platform for a women’s health and how her heart, spirit and pussy influence her physical well being. I have believed this for so long and speak about it consistently with friends and my mother and sister. I don’t have to inherit my family’s illnesses or mental issues, I don’t have to get ill though I experienced years of sexual abuse. I refuse to take that on. I want to live the healthiest life and do the best I can. Thank you for the blog today and sharing the launch of the new book and it’s real advice.

    • SG Anne la Tigresse February 25, 2015, 4:40 am

Love this, Kady. You are gorgeous, ageless and your style is an inspiration to me! Health and happiness are yours, Sister Goddess! xox

  • Kay February 24, 2015, 3:38 pm

LOVE everything about all this…SO helpful and inspiring!!!
But, please, why do you say “whether you’re 18 or 80…” ????
Does that mean that anyone over 80 is a lost cause? How about changing that to
“whether you’re 18 or 118…”!!! That feels much better to me!!!
    Thanks for everything!

    • Amy M. Burks March 1, 2015, 4:17 pm

good thinking! and Jeanne Calment lived to be 122, so it could even be 18 to 118+

  • SGMathaDawn February 24, 2015, 2:31 pm

I ordered the book immediately I have all of Dr. Christiane Northrup’s books so far and have let my daughter borrow them to read also.

  • SG Annette Sparkle Dancer February 24, 2015, 2:04 pm

I just love anyone who promotes the joys of tango! Much encouraging and empowering info in this interview. It’s so hard for me to relax my work/productivity ethic of getting things done and doing things right. Great reminder that it all circles back to pleasure.

  • Regina and Dr. Christiane – thank you for everything you have done for me, the women in my lineage – past and future- , for healing, for becoming the woman I was supposed to be and at 53 feeling more vital and sexy than ever, for thriving and enjoying being with young people and not feeling a bit different, for not acting my driver-license age!
Regena, thank you for the inspiration of creating pleasure and beauty in all areas of my life and for cultivating the empowerment that all of my feminine has to offer, my seductiveness and my force of CREATION! Love and vitality for you both!

  • SG Jacqueline February 24, 2015, 11:58 am

Way back in the 1980’s, as I was raising my babies in Portsmouth, NH, I heard of this female OB/GYN, an hour north in Yarmouth, Maine, who was taking a whole different view of women’s health…the emotional and spiritual, as well as the physical. I rushed out and bought her book, “Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom”. She had no idea how that book was saving my ass! With every lump in my left breast (there were 4 that had to be biopsied), I would run to her book and got some strong clues about how my desolate marriage and my lack of self-love and self-worth was contributing to this.

Fast forward to 2009. I had left the desolate marriage 8 years prior and moved to NYC. I was now a BIG sister goddess at SWA, I brought one of my “babies”, Lauren Abrami, into the program, and there is this same female doctor, having a rollicking good time on stage while teaching us more about women’s health and it’s connection to pleasure. As Regena was hauling that original book around, so was I. And now we come together at the school. The Goddess is truly amazing!

Now I can’t wait to watch Christiane’s PBS special on February 28th. I saw a preview of it this past fall at the live Hay House event in NYC. She was a hoot! Regena & Christiane…you are both rock stars. I am so grateful to have the wisdom of both of you in my life.

    • Tana D. February 24, 2015, 7:05 pm

Christiane is fantastic in person. I too am looking forward to the work. Assuming I can at some point do Mama Gena’s school. This has been for me right down my alley at a time over the last couple of years where I needed it most!

  • elizabeth February 24, 2015, 10:46 am

Thanks for this beautiful interview. 2 years ago I was marveling at how Goddesses at the School looked 20 years younger than last time I had seen them. I meditated on this wonder. In mediation I heard a voice say, “This is a tribe who does not age.”

  • Laurie February 24, 2015, 10:23 am

What a wonderful blog!! What beautiful truths!! Growing older is not growing “old” and I am enjoying ever minute of this life. The tools I have learned in Mastery as well as reading all of this blog – well I can only say it is simply the best.

Thanks so much for sharing all of this information and thanks, Mama Gena, for sharing the love you sprinkle on all of us
