Sister Goddess Theater Club: Ruined

Calling all New York Sister Goddesses! Yo Mama wants you to run to see this play--

“The world's devastation, the world's prayer, and the world's salvation...in two hours.“ -- Mama Gena.

Ruined, by Mama Gena's award-winning friend, playwright Lynn Nottage, just received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This masterpiece follows another Mama - Mama Nadi - through a tale of the war-torn Congo, the resilience of women living amidst chaos, and shelter in the form of a humble whorehouse.

Nottage says, “I wrote this play to reach out and to say that there are women that are 3,000 miles across the ocean who are in jeopardy and that they need us to pray for them and to speak out for them. I wanted people to understand that the individuals we’re speaking about are not just statistics, but that they are living, breathing stories that are rich and complicated and interesting and tragic. This play really celebrates the optimism, hope, and the brilliance of women.“

The reviews are in, ladies, and everyone is raving at the brilliance of this work. “It finds a literate compassionate way to shine a light on something that we all need to know… very emotional, very engaging.  The cast is magnificent!” says Sister Goddess Sharon Friedland.

Ruined will run at the Manhattan Theater Club through June 28th. Don’t miss it!
